Roosevelt Public School

Roosevelt, NJ

Roosevelt began using MindPrint in their elementary program in 2020 to respond to a NJ state mandate to identify gifted students and provide gifted programs. However, with behavior challenges that followed the COVID pandemic, Roosevelt expanded MindPrint to address the broader academic and behavioral needs of all students.

Initially, Roosevelt selected MindPrint for gifted identification in response to a new NJ state mandate. They chose MindPrint for its ability to go beyond traditional measures of giftedness and identify students with superior abstract, spatial and flexible thinking, skills most highly correlated to STEM careers and creative problem solving. The information gained from MindPrint helped teachers to extend learning in each student's specific area of strength.

After seeing the MindPrint data on all students, however, teachers were excited to have a roadmap to use to help all students, not just the ones that tested gifted. Even in this high-performing school, teachers saw a noticeable increase in behavior and academic challenges following COVID-related school closures.

Roosevelt teachers worked with MindPrint to understand the reasons for the unexpected behaviors and to adjust Tier 1 instruction to address executive function and self-regulation challenges. Teachers identified students with high variability in their MindPrint Profiles to target and differentiate instruction- particularly to younger students with strong complex reasoning but weaker executive functions, who seemed most negatively impacted by the school shutdowns.

Nurturing student readiness to learn with MindPrint Strategies became a straight-forward and practical way to help students catch up from pandemic setbacks and served as a home-school communication tool to help parents understand academic challenges their children are facing.

MindPrint's revelations were mindblowing! We literally hadn't “seen” some of our most capable students and for differing reasons. I am a Black, female school administrator who has spent my entire personal and professional career addressing equity issues and working to close the achievement gap. I consider myself to be in tune with my own biases but MindPrint showed me something I was missing.
